Moral and ethical aspects

Despite the convictive fact that nowadays more and more families gain their welcome happiness via reproductive medicine, there’s a lot of opponents stand against the surrogacy forming their views on the different bases.

As we know surrogacy has illegal status among the huge number of countries. Even some American states prohibit the surrogacy within their borders.

This state of affairs is determined by specific moral and ethnic aspects.

Some common ethical issues regarding surrogacy are:

  • Many people still consider surrogacy as a baby selling process and a surrogate mother is still looked down upon.
  • It can seem that surrogacy as a permitted act may depreciate a human dignity and woman’s status is especially endangered. Anyone who has enough money can order a strange woman's uterus for the required term of pregnancy as well as purchase the donor egg to fulfil a sudden whim to have a baby.
  • Many people also take it as a chance to take advantage of a needy woman. However, such opinions exist and raise barriers on the way of medicine progress.
  • Also part of people who applied to surrogacy live through various psychological collisions, such as
  • How to adopt the fact that absolutely unfamiliar person should contain and bear your baby and experience the whole pregnancy course instead of you.
  • How to tell your future baby that it was born from another woman which has signed a refusal from her maternal rights.

(Actually these are drastic attitudes and author tells about them with element of irony )

Religion is also another strong argument against surrogacy.

Islam totally prohibits surrogacy.

And Catholicism names such a process ‘immoral’ and calls to keep the entirety of marriage.  Because marriage is the unity of two persons.

In any case for the last years we can notice that the number of couples which take part in surrogacy programs as well as the number of women who participate in role of surrogates increased, according the world statistic.
